Treating Plantar Fasciitis

Whether you feel a burning pain when you get out of bed in the morning, or extreme sensitivity pain when you are running, you are more than likely suffering from plantar fasciitis. This condition results from an overuse of using your feet, which sounds silly, but actually is possible if you are standing for a long period of time or wear shoes that do not properly fit. Although there is not cure for this condition, it can be treated and prevented with the correct precautions.

Here are a few ways to treat plantar fasciitis:

Ice: Icing your foot for about 20 minutes on and off will help reduce any swelling your foot may be having.

Rest: Sometimes the best thing you can do is to just rest your foot until you are feeling 100% again.

Physical Therapy: If the two above treatments do not help your plantar fasciitis, it may be time to try to do some exercise to loosen your foot muscles. The Foot and Ankle Specialists of Illinois recommend to do toe and calf stretches before you get out of bed to prevent any pain from occuring.

Custom Orthotics: If you are a runner or are standing for a long period of time regularly, it is necessary to invest in customer orthotics that have added arch support to prevent pain.

Splint: Using a splint at night time is essential if you are experiencing pain during the hours of sleep. It will keep your foot up and out of the way from any complication to occur.

Plantar fasciitis can lead to even more serious conditions, this is why it is crucial for you to reach out to your podiatrist if none of the above as been successful
