Plantar Fasciitis

plantar fasciitisPlantar fasciitis is one of the more common heel conditions. It involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs from the heel along the bottom of the foot and connects to the toes. It is most often accompanied by sharp stabbing pain, that progressively gets worse as the area is aggravated. You may experience severe pain in your first steps after being sedentary for a few hours.

Who Is At Risk?

Although plantar fasciitis may develop after an accident or injury, it can also occur without obvious symptoms. Other factors can increase your risk of developing this condition, including:

Extended Periods Of Standing: Factory or construction workers, teachers, and others who spend hours standing on hard surfaces can aggravate the plantar fascia.

Joggers and Runners: Or other activities that place a lot of stress on your heel and attached tissue, like long-distance running

Age: most common between the ages of 40 and 60.

Foot mechanics. Flat feet or high arches affect weight distribution when you’re standing and put added stress on the plantar fascia

Obesity. Excess weight puts a strain on your plantar fascia.
